Whenever you are hungry, quite often, all you have to do is go to the refrigerator, open the door and look for you favourite snack. Or, if the rafrigerator happens to be empty, you go to your parents, ask for some money to buy some food. But are you aware that many children in your city and even in your neighborhood are not as fortunate? There are children who live below the poverty level, roaming around your city as beggars, street musicians, and scavengers. These children cannot afford a single decent meal. Consequently, they suffer from hunger since they have got nothing to eat. These children cannot improve their lives without the help from the fortunate ones like you. Actually, there are at least four ways that you can do to help them.
Firstly, you can help these poor children by giving them some money. The money you give may just be small change to you but it means a great deal to them. To you, a thousand rupiah is just enough to buy some snacks but to them it may mean a day's meal due to the fact that these street children could hardly earn enough money for a propper meal each day. Secondly you can give them a bigger contribution by buying awareness bracelet embossed, one embossed with MAKE POVERTY HISTORY, or an Indonesian version red bracelet embossed with SOLIDARITAS KEBERSAMAAN which costs ten thousand rupiah. By buying the bracelet, not only can you be trendy (hahaha) but also contribute to charity. Thirdly, you can join charitable organizations. These organizations can consolidate the members efforts to assist these unfortunate children to lead a more decent life in the future. Finally, lead a simple life. That means spend your money wisely and stay away from leading a glamorous life. This is important to keep your sense of compassion for other people, especially the poor. Moreover, leading a modest life teaches you to understand how difficult life is, especially for people who cannot earn enough to support themselves. Leading a simple life also helps you to realize that many children are much more unfortunate than you are, and so you will be able to feel grateful to God for what you possess.
As a civilized human being, you can't just ignore these less fortunate children. They need you and you really should help them in any way you can. Hopefully, in the near future we are not going to see such a heart-rendering view as you see in the city streets and on the newspaper.
